Graduate Student Housing

Rice University offers housing to full-time, currently registered or recently accepted graduate students. Rice Graduate Housing has three properties for graduate students located near campus - the Rice Graduate Apartments, the Rice Village Apartments and the newly-completed Rice University Townhomes. Furnished apartments are available in a variety of floor plans and the Rice Shuttle Service provides easy transportation to and from campus, nearby grocery stores and shopping centers. High-speed internet is provided. The Rice Graduate Housing staff host many social events such as holiday parties, cooking competitions and resident get-togethers in order to help facilitate the balance between work and play.

For more information, please visit the Graduate Housing website. First-year doctoral students are guaranteed housing on-campus if they meet application deadlines. All first-year students experience a very high placement rate in university housing.

Off-Campus Housing

The Housing & Dining Office has created a database of available off-campus housing in the area. You may also find this resource helpful. The Office of International Students and Scholars also provides resources for all students to locate temporary and permanent housing.

A Google Map of rental data was compiled by graduate students. This was compiled to provide an estimation of cost of housing available. To view the map in a new window, click here, or scroll down to view the embedded map.

Renter's Insurance

Renter's insurance is strongly advised for all of our students living in rental properties. Students wanting to secure renter's insurance that have a vehicle, should check with their car insurer to see if they also have a policy. Also, Progressive, GEICO, and All State all have renter's insurance policies. Rice is a member of the University Risk Management & Insurance Association and through that association we have access to a renters insurance program as a resource to students.
