Rice Graduate Students with Families
Child Care Search Tool
Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies has subscribed to a database of childcare centers in the Greater Houston Area. The resource is provided by the Collaborative for Children.
This resource is available to all of our graduate students and postdocs and is not intended for use by others. The password is “owls01”, any email address will work as a login. Please note that many child care centers in Houston have waiting lists and it can be important to find childcare well before the child's start date. Some graduate students have found assistance with child care costs through Workforce Solutions.
Some of our graduate students have formed a closed Facebook Group called "Rice Grads with Families" - https://www.facebook.com/groups/944977665530664/. This group is a place for Rice Graduate students who have families to connect, help each other find resources, and to gather information about what the needs of student who are also parents are.
Children's Birthday Parties
Each fall, the Office of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies hosts a "children's birthday party" as an opportunity for twenty children of graduate students. This provides these families with a well deserved treat and an opportunity to connect in person. The 2016 "birthday" party will be held on October 1, 2016, at the Children's Museum of Houston. Lunch is provided. To register your children (and yourself) for this opportunity, please visit the webform here: https://ricegradstudies.wufoo.com/forms/rice-grads-with-families-gps-event/.
The Graduate Student Association has listed other resources for graduate student parents on their website.
