Versatile PhD is an online resource to help humanities, social science, and STEM graduate students and PhDs in all fields identify, prepare for, and succeed in non-academic careers. Graduate students, faculty, postdocs, and others have free access to premium resources provided through Rice University's subscription to VPhD resources.

After successfully authenticating with your Rice credentials, you'll be directed to a Rice protected page that contains a link to Versatile PhD. Click the link to access the Versatile PhD login page for Rice University. If this is your first time visiting VPhD, create a VPhD member account by clicking "Register Here". If you are already a VPhD member, sign in as usual.

Your Versatile PhD member account gives you access to the PhD Career Finder, you can access resources from the experiences of real PhDs who have gone in new professional directions:

      • RESUMES: Authentic resumes and cover letters that got real PhDs their first jobs away from the faculty track, with detailed analysis that describes how they made the non-academic pivot and shows the application and hiring process step by step. 
      • BIOS: Inspiring first person stories by experienced non-academic PhDs describing how their careers evolved over several years after moving out of the academy, including promotions, advancement, and signature accomplishments. 
      • PANELS: Detailed inside information on a wide range of specific PhD friendly careers provided by PhDs in those careers, along with their answers to a wide range of member questions.
