Previous Institutions: Texas A&M University
What are you studying: Ph.D in Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering

Erin is pursuing her doctorate in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at Rice with a focus on developing bioelectronics. She received her B.S. in Chemical Engineering at Texas A&M University in 2020 and joined the ChBE department at Rice the following fall. During her time at Texas A&M University, her research focused on quantifying and detecting free carbon nanotubes in the environment.

At Rice, Erin is co-advised by Dr. Biswal and Dr. Verduzco where she specializes in designing biosensors for biological and environmental concerns. She has investigated methods to detect SARS-CoV-2 with biosensors and is currently focused on the rapid detection of pipeline oil leakages in subsea environments.

Fun Fact:

I like to sew.

Favorite thing about Rice:

The beautiful campus and the cheap coffee.

Favorite thing about Houston:

The people that I have met here.

Why did you decide to go to grad school?

I enjoyed working in a lab during my undergraduate and wanted to fully pursue a research topic with the hopes of making a small difference in the world.
