Esteban is a native of Costa Rica. He earned a physics degree from Universidad de Costa Rica. He has taken part in multiple research projects on complex systems, information theory, astrophysics, and biology. He performed research at the CTBP while still an undergraduate under the direction of Professor José Onuchic. With Prof. Onuchic serving as his PI, he decided to enroll in graduate school at Rice University as a result of this experience. His current research focuses on how chromatin shape and function relate to one another.

Great community and abundant support to grow as a person and as a scientist.

After doing an internship at during my undergrad I felt drawn towards doing research.
