Late nights on the lawn with Owls After Dark

A showing of “Avengers: Infinity War” on the grassy Central Quad kicked off a brand-new series Aug. 24 when the Rice University Student Center hosted its inaugural Owls After Dark event. The programming series offers engaging activities for graduate and undergraduate students on a monthly basis throughout the year to enhance the overall Rice experience.

“Students are always looking for things to do on campus, and we are really aiming to enhance campus vibrancy and increase students’ sense of community at Rice,” said Assistant Director of Campus Events Ryan Morgado.

The Owls After Dark lineup includes two more movie screenings on a giant, inflatable screen in the Central Quad (“The Incredibles 2” Sept. 20 and “Coco” Oct. 11), two game show nights in the Rice Memorial Center Grand Hall (Sept. 21 and Nov. 29) and a hypnotist arriving just in time for Halloween (Oct. 26).

Each Owls After Dark event starts at 9 p.m. and attendance is free. All members of the Rice community are invited, though students are the core audience.

“We hope that students see these events as an opportunity to meet new people, hang out with friends and socialize late at night on campus,” Morgado said.

The initial response to Owls after Dark has been strong, Morgado said.

“We absolutely have plans to continue this into the spring semester,” he said.
