Previous Institution: University of North Texas

Pronouns: she/her

My name is Jae'la Solomon, I am entering my second year in the PhD graduate program in English at Rice. Prior to coming to Rice University I completed my Bachelors of Art in English Literature with a minor in legal studies at the University of North Texas. My area of interest is late 19th to contemporary African American and African diasporic literature. I hope to primarily focus on black feminist theory and its interest in maternity and reproductive rights and how these ideas connect to literary and archival studies.

Why I decided to go to grad school:

I want to be an English professor.

Fun fact about me:

While I love reading and literature I much rather watch a good show or movie in my spare time. I love Criminal Minds and any sitcom.

Favorite thing about Rice:

Access to interdisciplinary studies and leeway to study what you want.

Favorite thing about Houston:

Most places are typically open late.
