Carly grew up in a suburb near Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She got her B.S. in Chemistry at Lewis University in 2020. As an undergraduate researcher, Carly had the opportunity to work with industrial partners to explore the mechanisms of various processes in semiconductor manufacturing, while also learning how to formulate for specific applications.
After presenting her work at GCURS, Carly applied to Rice and joined the Chemistry Department as a doctoral student in 2020. Soon after, she joined the Jones Lab and earned an NSF Fellowship; Carly is now working to understand the role of ligands in nanoparticle syntheses.
Outside of the lab, Carly loves music and sports, so you can often find her at a local concert, game, or in the gym.
I’d love to chat about my experience at Rice and answer any questions that you might have! Feel free to contact me.

I love that Rice has a strong emphasis on building community.
Favorite thing about Houston:
Houston has so much to explore, I love finding authentic food from a variety of cultures.
Why did you decide to go to grad school?
My time as an undergraduate researcher sparked my passion for materials science and continues to inspire me to drive toward deeper mechanistic understanding of industrial issues. I hope to create a future that allows technology to solve some of the world's greatest inequities by improving quality of life for all people.
