On March 1, Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies, in cooperation with twenty other campus offices, showcased campus resources for graduate students in the inaugural Graduate Student Resource Fair. The Fair, held in the Grad Bubble, featured staff from, among others, the Disability Resource Center, Student Health Services, the SAFE Office, and the Office of International Students and Scholars.

Melissa Cloutier, a doctoral student in Psychological Sciences, said that she particularly enjoyed speaking with staff from the Doerr Institute and the Center for Career Development, which she didn’t realize before the Fair had resources for doctoral students. Liz Brigman from the Office of Information Technology said that her office enjoyed meeting graduate students and talking about their needs.

OISS staff demonstrate resources to graduate students

Each office brought a display of the resources they offer to graduate students, including stickers, pennants, and demonstrations of their services. The Student Center brought a LEGO creation from an Owls After Dark event. Fondren Library staff brought a working printing press to create coasters with inked representations of raccoons in the library.

Students who visited at least eight of the twenty-one tables could enter a drawing for lunch with Dean Matsuda. Offices interested in participating in future Resource Fairs should contact GPS at graduate@rice.edu.
