Congratulations to Kate Cross, who has been promoted to Associate Dean of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies effective April 1.
“I am delighted that Kate has agreed to serve as associate dean,” said Seiichi Matsuda, Dean of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies. “We are extraordinarily fortunate to work with her.”
Cross joined the GPS office in July 2008 and since then has worked across campus to bring people together to improve and modernize processes for graduate students, faculty and staff.
“Kate has spearheaded many advances over the past decade, including the reporting system in Banner, the development of GradAdmit and then the Slate application system, and the move from hardcover thesis submission to the current electronic system,” said Matsuda. “Most importantly, she has managed these technological improvements while keeping primary focus on promoting the success and well-being of each individual student.”
Cross’ core responsibility in her new role will be to govern the central infrastructure and processes for all Rice graduate programs. This includes admission, degree requirements, stipend administration and degree-granting. Cross will continue to manage the administration of the Office of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies and said she is looking forward to leading more new initiatives.
"I'm very much looking forward to the opportunity to continue advancing the work of our office," she said.
