Sathvik Ajay Iyengar, Alumni Ambassador

Sathvik Ajay Iyengar is a 2026 Schmidt Science Fellow in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences at the University of California, Berkeley. He is also a 2026 Bakar Innovation Fellow, working to translate topological semimetal interconnects toward scalable next-generation computing hardware. His research bridges materials chemistry, condensed matter physics, and device engineering to understand how charge, polarization, electromechanics, and heat couple across interfaces for energy-efficient computing and soft matter-integrated electronic systems.

Sathvik received his Ph.D. in Materials Science and NanoEngineering from Rice University in 2025, where his research focused on atomic-scale interfaces in ultrathin hybrid materials. During his Ph.D., he was named a 2024 JSPS Fellow to develop two-dimensional van der Waals heterostructures for ultrafast spectroscopy, and in 2023, he was named an inaugural Quad Fellow as part of a science-diplomacy initiative among the United States, India, Japan, and Australia. His work and academic trajectory have also been recognized through his selection as a 2026 Materials Science and Engineering Rising Star at MIT and as a Caltech Engineering and Applied Science Trailblazer. He remains closely connected to Rice and is passionate about supporting students and alumni pursuing careers across research, technology, and academia.
