Cashier’s Office

The Cashier’s Office bills tuition, fees and a variety of other campus based charges to students via a student billing system. Bills are issued electronically each month and are generally due within 10 days of being issued.

You can purchase subsidized Metro Q cards from the Cashier's Office as well. The card value is $500, and the cost to graduate students is $55. You can also cash checks (see their staff for guidelines) by presenting your student identification.

Center for Academic and Professional Communication

The Center for Academic and Professional Communication (CAPC) provides tools to help students communicate at the graduate level. Some of their services: one-on-one consultations on writing, presentations and visuals, dissertation camps, writing groups, fellowship coaching, and communications courses for international graduate students. The Center for Career Development (CCD) offers programs, services and resources to guide students in pursuing their career goals. They offer career counseling and assessments, mock interviews, resume reviews, professional communication workshops and panels, and work to connect current students with employers and alumni.

CTE is a great resource for grad students and postdocs who want to become more effective teachers. They offer a certificate in teaching and learning as well as interactive institutes and TA training!

Rice University's Dining department has worked in conjunction with the Graduate Student Association to create a meal plan for graduate students. This meal plan allows graduate students to pick up food from selected undergraduate serveries. Space is limited; more information can be found here.

Additionally, there are a number of public dining options on campus, including Ambassador Chinese, Little Kitchen HTX, Coffee House, the Whoo Deli and more. View a list and menus here.

The Doerr Institute courses alllow students to build and develop leadership competencies and skills. If you are not feeling well, visit Rice Student Health Services! They provide preventive and outpatient clinical care for all students of Rice University, regardless of insurance - appointments are included in student fees. Student Health is located on-campus in the Morton L. Rich Health and Wellness Center, next to the Brown Magister's house.

Housing Services at Rice University combines Undergraduate Housing, Residential Dining, Graduate Apartments and Summer Conference services in one department.

Furnished graduate apartments are available in a variety of floor plans and the Rice Shuttle Service provides easy transportation to and from campus, nearby grocery stores, and shopping centers. High-speed internet is provided and the Rice network which allows access to the online journals and databases of the Fondren Library. The Rice Graduate Housing staff host many virtual social events.

The Parking Office will issue parking permits and register vehicles. Bring your student I.D., and be sure to register for your courses before attempting to register your vehicle. You may also register online at parking.rice.edu.

Payroll

This is where you can obtain tax information (W-4 and I-9), sign up for direct deposit and obtain timesheets if you are working a campus job. A mail drop is available for any before or after hours mail. Payroll processes all university payrolls, provides foreign nationals with resources for accurate federal withholding and reporting, and prepares and files all federal and state deposits and reporting within federal and state tax regulations.

Police Department (RUPD)

RUPD's mission is to provide a safe and secure environment for the university! Their emergency dispatch runs twenty-four hours per day. To obtain your student I.D. card, RUPD will accept anything that has your student identification number listed (memo on department letterhead, your paid statement, etc.) along with a photo ID such as a driver's license or passport. You may also register your bike with the police department.

The Recreation Center encourages a lifetime of health and wellness for our campus. They offer intramural sports, fitness classes, aquatics, dance, and club activities. They also rent outdoor equipment such as tents, kayaks and more! Membership information is available via their website.

This office provides care management and navigation to students who are reporting an incident of interpersonal violence perpetrated against them and to students who have been accused of perpetrating interpersonal violence. They provide education and support for students who have experienced or are experiencing: sexual violence, relationship violence, stalking, sexual harassment, family violence, gender discrimination, and pregnancy discrimination.

The Wellbeing and Counseling Center is an excellent first point of contact for students who want to talk to someone about solutions to their wellbeing concerns. They host a variety of workshops and programs to promote student wellbeing. Additionally, confidential consultations and short term counseling is available to all currently enrolled Rice graduate and undergraduate students, as appointments are included as part student fees.
