Hello! I’m Hung-Yu Lin, but you can call me Iris.

I obtained my bachelor’s degree in Bio-Industrial Mechatronics Engineering from National Chung Hsing University in Taiwan. In my junior year, I spent five weeks as a research intern at Rice as part of the MACHI program. Through this experience, I fell in love with Rice's vibrant environment and decided to return for graduate studies.
Currently, I’m a PhD student in the Mechanical Engineering department, advised by Professor Daniel J. Preston. In my free time, I enjoy baking and learning about art and design!

Fun Fact:

Do you know that “Iris” spelled backward is “Siri”? Feel free to ask me anything!

Favorite thing about Rice:

Welcoming and collaborative community—students, faculty, and staff!

Favorite thing about Houston:

The wide variety of food choices!

Why did you decide to go to grad school?

I want to develop innovative products that positively impact the world. By pursuing a PhD, I can gain the knowledge and skills needed for research and development roles within the industry.
