Hello! I am passionate about the field of synthetic biology and teaching the next generation of scientists. I am a PhD student in the Systems, Synthetic, and Physical Biology program, and matriculated in Fall 2025. I research multicellularity under the direction of Matthew Bennett in the Biodesign Lab. Following graduate school, I hope to become a professor in the molecular/synthetic biology space.

Before moving to Houston, I attended the University of Texas at Austin and graduated with a B.S. Biochemistry degree in May 2025 (Hook 'em!). This is where I became acquainted with the field of synthetic biology, working in Jeffrey Barrick's lab and studying the honeybee gut microbiome.

Outside of my time spent in the lab, the classroom, and on the beautiful tree-lined campus of Rice, I enjoy volunteering with elementary schools and mentoring younger students. I spent my four years of undergrad working with a non-profit to expand hands-on STEM learning to fourth and fifth grade girls. As a Graduate Student Ambassador for Rice University, I'm happy to share my experience and mentor those interested in pursuing higher education!

Fun Fact:

I play piano & cello!

Favorite thing about Rice:

The community I've found, especially in my program & cohort!

Favorite thing about Houston:

I love all the different attractions/events! (The HMNS, Houston Ballet, Space Center, etc.)

Why did you decide to go to grad school?

I wanted to pursue a career in academia and hope to one day become a professor! I also love research & mentoring, and grad school felt like the best place to do both!
