Vincent Lai is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Psychological Sciences at Rice University in the Health Psychology & Behavioral Medicine and Industrial-Organizational Psychology interest groups. He previously graduated from Rice in 2021 with a B.A. in Psychology with a minor in Biochemistry & Cell Biology. Vincent now conducts his graduate work in the Biobehavioral Mechanism Explaining Disparities Lab, supervised by Dr. Christopher Fagundes. His research interests focus on the impacts of close relationships and related stressors on physical and mental health, such as how missing out on positive social experiences or being in hostile, conflict-filled marriages "hurts." In his free time, you can find Vincent at the gym, spending time with loved ones, exploring the city, or relaxing with a good show or video game.
Fun Fact:
My parents had their wedding photos taken at Rice, and I didn't find out until I was accepted to Rice for my undergraduate education!
Favorite thing about Rice:
Rice has a beautiful campus with a vibrant and supportive community. There are so many opportunities to grow as a student, a researcher, and a person!
Favorite thing about Houston:
Houston is very diverse, which shows in many ways! Even after living here for most of my life, I am still finding new things to do and see.
Why did you decide to go to grad school?
I love research and teaching and want to make positive impacts on peoples' lives with my research in psychology.
