2023 Winter Recess Notes

The Office of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies will be closed for winter recess beginning at 5 p.m. on Dec. 21, 2023 and will reopen on Jan. 2. Below we've compiled information that may help you while our office is closed. In emergency situations, call RUPD at (713) 348-6000 or 911 if it's an off-campus emergency.

Wellbeing

The Rice Wellbeing and Counseling Center is closed for appointments Dec. 22 - Jan. 2; however, you can still call 713-348-3311 and speak with a licensed counselor 24/7 for telephone support and consultation. In emergency situations, call RUPD @ 713-348-6000 or 911 if it's an off-campus emergency.

Applicant Questions

Q: I am attempting to open an application, but the system indicates that there are no application types available.
A: Please be sure you are using the link gradapply.rice.edu and not an older link. If you are still unable to start an application, please contact your prospective graduate program for assistance.

Q: I sent my GRE/TOEFL scores, but the application system shows my scores as pending. Were my scores received?
A: Verify that you submitted the scores with the correct institutional reporting code (6609). Please allow 2-4 weeks for scores to be reported to Rice. If this amount of time has passed and you wish to verify your scores, please check in with the program to which you are applying.

Q: My recommender did not receive the request for the online letter of recommendation.
A: It is possible the email was filtered as spam. You can log back into the application and resend your letter of recommendation. If you continue to have an issue, please check in with the program to which you are applying.

Rice Academy of Fellows

Rice University Academy of Fellows applications are due Jan 4. Make sure that your letter of support is from a Rice faculty member who would potentially be your mentor.

Travel

If you're traveling internationally, make sure you sign up for International SOS. International SOS is a Rice-sponsored benefit for faculty, students and staff and can provide lost document or medical advice, legal referrals, and security information, among other services.
