Meet Rice’s Graduate Ambassador Nhi Le

Le shares her interest, experience, and advice to prospective graduate students

Nhi Le

Meet Nhi Le. Le is a second year Ph.D. Candidate in the Department of Statistics at Rice University. Le is from Vietnam and is a Rice Graduate Ambassador. Ambassadors are students who represent the university and help prospective students gain knowledge of student life as a graduate student at Rice.

Le is a first generation college student and chose Rice as a graduate school because of the opportunity of furthering her education and research goals. Her research focuses on data science. When she is not conducting research, she serves in various leadership roles within the Rice community. She is a National Science Foundation (NSF) Fellow and a D2K Mentor on campus.

Le advises prospective students to give themselves enough time to start and complete the application process.

“Do not wait until the deadline to apply,” said Le. “Be prepared for the application and take it seriously.”

Le enjoys helping prospective students with their applications and also advises them to ask questions.

“Don’t forget to ask for the waiver,” said Le.

Outside of academics, Le enjoys the food culture in Houston. “Houston has a large Vietnamese community,” said Le. Some of Le’s favorite food places include the Vietnamese restaurants in the Bellaire and Rice Village Areas.

Le’s lucky number is 13, and she is looking forward to having her birthday align with Friday the 13th.
