If you are in graduate school, you probably know the importance of caffeine and how it typically gets us through our days. One of the most popular, go-to drinks for many is matcha! This green, Japanese green tea leaf powder is an energy booster that can not only come hot or iced, but can also be customized to a variety of flavors! Whether it’s a hot sunny day and you’re craving a berry iced matcha with oatmilk, or a chilly morning where a simple, warm vanilla matcha will give you a head-start for your day, there are so many INCREDIBLE places in Houston you can try for such flavorful, delicious matcha drinks!
Here are my 3 favorite matcha cafes:
1. Bluestone Lane
As a fruity matcha lover, Bluestone Lane has the best berry matcha! Particularly, both the strawberry and blueberry matchas are made of real blended fruit that tastes so fresh and sweet as it is blended with the milk and unsweetened matcha! Bluestone is also super accommodating and has vegan milk options as well as vanilla flavoring if you prefer to try something simpler!
Average Matcha price: $7-9
Bluestone Lane is located in Rice Village, and here is their official website for Rice Village: https://bluestonelane.com/cafes/rice-village/
2. Matcha Mia
Have you ever been to a matcha shop with tons of unique flavors? If you haven’t, Matcha Mia is the best place to go! Their menu features unique twists on matcha, like rose matcha, coconut cream, lavender haze, and even spirulina honey matcha! As someone who doesn’t consume refined sugar, I love that they will even allow you to make special requests like monkfruit sweetened matcha with unsweetened strawberry cold foam!
Average Matcha price: $10–20
Here is Matcha Mia’s official website: https://www.hellomatchamia.com/
3. Badolina
Personally, I am not super fond of added refined sugar because I don’t like the taste of sugar. Normally, this limits the types of flavors I order with my matcha. However, Badolina has saved the day! Badolina offers lots of different types of matchas that I can order due to their variety of syrups! From caramel, to hazelnut, and vanilla (sugar-free included too), your matcha will taste delicious as they will customize it to the sweetness of your choice!
Average Matcha price: $5-7
Badolina is located in Rice Village, and here is their official website: https://www.badolinabakery.com/
These places were all incredibly amazing, each with its own unique twist on matcha drinks. It’s such a fun way to explore different cafés, especially if you’re new to Houston! On top of that, they’re all great study spots, too. So while you’re working on school assignments, you can sip on your cup of green goodness and get that perfect boost of energy to power through your day!
