Previous Institution: University of New Mexico

Pronouns: she/her

I'm a PhD candidate in the Biosciences department working in Dr. Caroline Ajo-Franklin's lab. I'm from Brazil but I got my bachelor's degree at the University of New Mexico, where I received an athletic scholarship to swim for the university while completing my degree in Biochemistry. Following graduation, I worked for two years as a research technician at UNM before starting graduate school. I chose Rice because of its emphasis on fostering a healthy community lifestyle, providing opportunities to connect with individuals from diverse backgrounds, and offering a great graduate degree program.

Why I decided to go to grad school:

I wanted to learn how to be an independent researcher so that I can contribute to the field of biosciences.

Fun fact about me:

I love baking bread.

Favorite thing about Rice:

The many beautiful trees on campus and the supportive graduate student community.

Favorite thing about Houston:

The diversity of food/restaurants you can find here.
