Previous Institution: Cornell University

Pronouns: she/her

I grew up in South Korea and moved to the United States to pursue my undergraduate studies in Biomedical Engineering at Cornell University. Currently, I am a PhD student in the Bioengineering program at Rice University. I am co-advised by Dr. James Chappell from Biosciences and Dr. Laura Segatori from Bioengineering. My research focuses on engineering RNA-based sensors in mammalian cells. In my free time, I enjoy outdoor activities like playing tennis and discovering new food spots.

Why I decided to go to grad school:

I decided to pursue graduate school to explore research opportunities in synthetic biology. After researching various programs, I found that Rice University had cutting-edge research in synthetic biology which motivated me to apply there.

Fun fact about me:

I have a grey cat called Dandy!

Favorite thing about Rice:

I like the friendly grad student culture with Valhalla! I also like the many trees and squirrels on campus.

Favorite thing about Houston:

I really like how Houston is flat! I also love the food here.
