Ellie (she/her/hers) is pursuing her PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Rice focused on developing wirelessly powered bioelectronics. She received her B.S. double-majoring in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Pennsylvania in 2022 and joined Rice's ECE department in the Fall of 2022.

Throughout her undergraduate years, she spent her research time bouncing between different subfields of neuroengineering from signal processing to medical imaging. Interested in the brain and its mechanisms but unsure where to focus her efforts, she found device development in her senior year. Now, her research at Rice with Dr. Jacob Robinson involves designing and prototyping magnetoelectrically powered neurostimulators and cardiac pacemakers. In her time outside of research, Ellie loves exploring coffee shops around Houston, spending time in the park writing, reading, and drawing, as well as going on bike rides.

Why I decided to go to grad school:

I wanted an outlet where I could pursue whatever science/tech questions I wanted answers to and bring to life devices I imagined existing in med tech, all while being surrounded by numerous individuals with their own respective questions and pursuits.

Fun fact about me:

I was born in New York but raised in Shanghai, Taipei, and Dallas (would love to talk to you about any moving concerns/cultural differences/etc!)

Favorite thing about Rice:

The supportive learning community -- students and faculty alike.

Favorite thing about Houston:

It's diversity (in food, people, everything!)
