Seiichi Matsuda named Dean

Provost George McLendon has announced the appointment of Professor Seiichi Matsuda as Dean of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies, effective January 1, 2014. In his message to the Rice community, Provost McLendon stated:  “It is with great pleasure that I announce that Professor Seiichi Matsuda, E. Dell Butcher Chair in Chemistry and Professor of Biochemistry and Cell Biology, will be appointed Dean of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies as of January 1, 2014.  Seiichi has been the Chair of the Chemistry department since July 1, 2007.  He will bring energy, passion, extraordinary commitment and a great track record for innovation to his new position. He came to Rice as an assistant professor in 1999 and achieved the rank of associate professor with tenure in 2001,  and he was promoted to full professor in 2004. I would like to thank Dean Sarah Whiting and her committee (Adria Baker, Celeste Boudreaux, Carl Caldwell, Anna Dodson Saikin, Cynthia Farach-Carson, Jennifer George, Richard Lavenda, Susan McIntosh, Bill Parsons, Rebecca Richards-Kortum) for their work and commitment in vetting and identifying wonderful candidates for this position.”
